DIY Bata Canvas

For a final year project at the College of Arts,Delhi, applied arts student Tsundue Phunkhang collaborated with photographer Parikhit Pal, designers Varun Sardana, Gaurav and Ritika and blogger Mootboard to produce a series of images, featuring revamped canvas shoes. "This project was about taking a well known brand, in this case Bata and sort of reinventing it in terms of its image and style" says Tsundue. Varun Sardana , Gaurav and Ritika and blogger Mootboard were each given a pair of canvas shoes and asked to createa D-I-Y project with the shoes. Tsunde explains why he chose to use Bata shoes, "I have worn Bata canvas shoes for as long as i can remember, through school, and still do to date. As Parikhit pointed out, they're called canvas's,so the idea was to use it as a blank canvas to create something new".

MANE ROAD - Hairstyles of Indian men.

I did a small project for M.O.B. Magazine's website with photographer Parikhit Pal.
We took to the streets of Delhi to find guys with cool hairstyles. It was surprisingly easy to approach people and there was no lack of great hairstyles to feature!

Snapshots: Nidhi Jacob

space
What's your name? What do you do?
Nidhi Jacob. I've got my stubby fingers in all things fashion.
space

What’s your personal style?
Very granny-chic. I've have this strange love for faded florals and heritage hand-me-down pieces. I also like tacky, shiny things, like hookerish sparkly dresses, fake indian gold jewellery and beyonce. I'm a weird mix.

Why is fashion/ style important to you?
I love that your clothes can say so much about you without you even uttering a word. I've never been much of a talker and fashion was my earliest form of expression.

What/ who inspires you?
Katie Grand because she has what it takes to be best friends with Giles, street blogs, hindi movies and old family photos.

What do you treasure most in your wardrobe?
Everything my grandmother passed down to me- her faux pearl necklace, crochet clutches, how to do print clash and my violent mood swings (that has a lot to do with what i wear everyday).
space

What do you splurge on?
I hate forking out too much money on clothes, I'm a cheapskate. It's usually Rs. 300 tops on a single garment. But i'll make an exception for shoes or a bag. But even then never more than Rs. 3000. Ever.

What do you love doing?
Sleeping, watching trace tv, watching my best friend's mouth move, farm animals and dries van noten. And jil sander.

What’s your biggest wish?
At the moment, its a very materialistic list- an Alexander Wang bag, the Miu Miu ss10 chunky mary-janes and the skintone to carry off ash-blonde hair. (All for free please). Some years down the line, a magazine title of my own.

SNAPSHOTS: Lesly Lobeni

What's your name? What do you do?
Lesly Lobeni. Part time final year history student, part time blogger, part time hoarder and part time idealist.

What’s your personal style?
Not a part of the status quo. Still in search for that soul style. Let me hit 30, i'll give you my personal style then. For the time being, the fashionable life is being kept busy experimenting with everything thats quirky.

Why is fashion/ style important to you?
It makes me happy!! Fashion is such a happy place to be. It's like this never ending sitcom on mute and everyone is living a life in technicolour... I can weave my story with fashion.

What/ who inspires you?
No one or anything really. I would like to inspire someone though (LOL. :D)

What do you treasure most in your wardrobe?
ALL MY SHOES!!! *sigh*my Burberry bear (called Christopher Bailey), my vintage bags, my Marc Jacobs dress, my MNG neon belts.. omg, the list is endless. A LOT! I would kill myself if i were to part with anything.

What do you splurge on?
Shoes, Shoes and shoes galore!! <3*eying>

What do you love doing?
To be alone, listen to Travis or Coldplay and write. Write about every detail in the fabric of what was, in and will be. And of course, to dress up like a hep cat and paint the city in all the hues.

What’s your biggest wish?
For the word 'wish' to not exist but to actually have everything one could need and not crib about it. If i were to let my philosophical facade come undone, my wishlist would take several pages of your blog space. :P ... to name a few would be - Hermes 'Kelly' Bag, Balmain trophy jacket + zipper shoes, Ann Demeulemeester laced up shoes and make Christopher Bailey my godfather.

SNAPSHOTS: Nikhil D.

What’s your name? What do you do?
Nikhil D. - Stylist. I also love making clothes when I have the time.

What’s your personal style?
Androgynous I think. I'm a hoarder! I never throw any thing away, instead I deconstruct or over-dye most of my unusable clothes. Also I borrow a lot from my female friends.

Why is style/fashion important to you?
Individuality! So no two people look the same.

What/who inspires you?
I love anything Andy Warhol-esque. Old people on the streets have the best style and then there's T.V., period films, British magazines and blogs.

What do you treasure most in your wardrobe?
My collection of buttons/pin. I never tire of those and my grandfather's pocket watch.

What do you splurge on?
I only would splurge on vintage things. I need to get started on that soon.

What do you love doing?
I love taking pictures and doing random art and craft but travelling is my new obsession.

What’s your biggest wish?
To contribute to I-D and make a movie someday.

SnApShOts: ShENaLi KheTOho SuMi

What’s your name? What do you do?

Shenali Khetoho Sumi. Graduated from NID with a Diploma in Textiles, but now focusing on fashion.

What’s your personal style?

My style is a mix of Kate Moss‘s androgynous look and Blair Waldorf’s (Leighton Meester’s character in Gossip Girl) classic feminine style. I like pretty, but I don’t ever like to be too feminine in my dressing.

Why is style/ fashion important to you?

....because its the easiest, most visual way of expressing myself. It is what defines me and creatively challenges me at the same time.

What / who inspires you?

Marc Jacobs for re-inventing grunge season after season and never failing to be influential and inspiring. He represents the aesthetics I like.

What do you treasure most in your wardrobe?

My Anna Sui dresses that I earned working extra hours while I was interning there, my Marc Jacobs shorts that I bullied my sister into buying for me and a Varun Sardana dress and skirt that I got for free!! He’s so generous!!

What do you splurge on?

Shoes, bags and I aim to own at least a hundred of them by the time I turn thirty and then have them buried with me when I die just in case. And antique and contemporary silver jewellery which I plan to pass down to my future mini me.

What do you love doing?

Other than the obvious (shopping), I love to learn different languages. As of now I’m teaching myself Japanese from podcasts, books and watching anime. In the near future I would want to go to Japan and live there for a year or so.

What’s your biggest wish?

.....To be adopted by Marc Jacobs and design for Marc by Marc Jacobs. So then it would be Marc by Marc Jacobs by Shenali Swu.

ShAdEs

Some sunglasses my friend and i collected. The first one's a wayfarer and the second an interesting take on the wayfarer -it's got a metal rim around the glasses- and i found it among a pile of old sunglasses in an optical shop. The third one is also from an old optical store - it has a transparent acetate frame and looks much like the Adam Kimmel ones below. The fourth is a favourite, i cant place what era it's from. It's also an old piece. Fifth is a gift from Ray Ban and the sixth another wayfarer. The rest of them are old too, except for the last one and the second last which is a Linda Farrow from Tranoi. I'm not obsessed but i want these ones below!

I came across Rohan Kale's menswear in this shoot on fashion156.com. Apparently he studied at NIFT Mumbai before moving onto London College of Fashion. I love the colours on the suits, which are part of his M.A. show at L.C.F! Definitely someone to look out for!
